Austin FC was involved in many problems regarding one of their players. But not all of this is horrible news for the MLS team.
The Verde and Black have made a crucial move regarding this upcoming season and the future of this team.
While Seattle Sounders added MLS veteran Paul Arriola to their squad, Austin FC appears to be taking a different approach with their signings.
Similarly, Nashville SC has brought in Jason Palacios, a player with plenty of experience, adding some veteran presence to their lineup.
This seems to be a growing trend in Major League Soccer, but Austin FC is bucking it by targeting one of South America’s brightest young talents.
Austin FC signs Nicolás Dubersarsky

It is official. Austin FC has signed Instituto de Cordoba’s young gem for $3 million until December 2028.
The Oaks have acquired 80% of the rights of Nicolás Dubersarsky, one of the Argentinian football league’s future promises.
The 20-year-old midfielder played 27 games between the Argentina Cup, the Argentinian professional league, and the league cup. During those 27 games, Dubersarsky scored zero goals and delivered one assist.
Not long ago, Nicolás Dubersarsky was hailed as one of the best U-21 midfielders in the Americas, as we can read on ShowSport.
Is this a good signing by Austin FC?
Last season, Austin finished in 10th place in the West Conference, missing the playoffs by five points. And with the possibility of Driussis’s departure, the Texan team needed a signing soon to try and replace the lack of game and goal Driussi brought to the team.
With this signing, the Verde and Black strengthened their midfield by adding a creative player with the potential to orchestrate the team’s attacks.
They signed the player designated as pivot or number five, which Austin has been missing the last couple of games.
The Oaks play with a 433 formation. With the addition of Dubersarsky and the departure of Driussi, Nico Estevéz, Austin’s coach, could put Pereira and Wolf higher and leave the Argentinan as a defensive midfielder or not that high on the pitch.
This addition will end up with more ball control for Austin FC. And a solid defense in the midfield with players like Pereira and Wolf in addition to the new signing.
The MLS club expects the youngster to bring his defensive skills into the team.
Playing as a defensive midfielder, Austin expects Dubersarsky to cover spaces and make tackles. Most importantly, once he recovers the ball, he should create attacks with his teammates.
