The 2025 MLS preseason is plenty of news. Many teams have strengthened their rosters with various signings, and some have lost key players. Major League Soccer is running hot in the market and will not stop.

Many rumors have appeared in the last couple of days. But one specific rumor could break the entire league. It involves a legend from the Mexican league.

The player in question is André-Pierre Gignac from Tigres. That’s right, the 39-year-old striker could leave Tigres once the tournament is over.

According to the journalist Aldo Rodriguez, Tigres might not be the last club of Gignac’s career. The journalist reported that multiple clubs would try to make a deal with the French striker.

Among those teams, we found the recent MLS Cup winner, LA Galaxy. The other clubs are LAFC, San José Earthquakes, and San Diego FC.

Before retiring, Gignac wishes to play one more year through 2026, and the chances of doing it in the MLS take strength.

Nothing is official, but the upcoming months will be crucial for Tigres to keep their goalscorer.

Which MLS team is best suited for Gignac arrivals?

Let’s start with LAFC. The team brought up another French legend like Oliver Giroud. This means that coach Steven Cherundolo has two alternatives. Firstly, decide which striker will be the starter and who is going on the bench.

Decide what he decides. In that case, both legends will be unhappy and cause problems among the team because his star players do not have enough playing time.

The other alternative is changing the formation. Coach Cherundolo plays with a 433 formation, only using one striker. If LAFC finalizes the deal, he needs to find a way to get both strikers on the field together. The best option he can make is a classic 442.

Let’s talk about San Diego FC and San Jose Earthquakes.

Why did I include both clubs in this discussion? Because both teams have the same issue regarding the possible arrival of Gignac. The biggest problem of these two teams, regarding the money, is their prestige among the other two teams.

Being his last year of football, Gignac will try to join a team that brings him playing time but also a team strong enough to be a contender in the different competitions of the MLS.

Even though both clubs are promising for the near future in the MLS, a player with Gignac’s age wants success now because there is no after.

And now, LA Galaxy.

The favorite team to sign a possible deal with Gignac. The MLS Cup Champions could benefit from an experienced player like the French man. Unlike LAFC, Coach Greg Vanney utilizes diverse formations based on the opponent.

A strong characteristic of the LA Galaxy attack is the dynamic of their strikers. Both Joveljic and Paintsil are players that move around the entire attack. They can switch positions, and that change makes them a big threat to the defenders.

However, mobility doesn’t always translate to goals. That’s why having a serial killer deep in the box, without involving much movement, could cause an improvement in the team.
