For the last couple of weeks, the MLS has been running hot. There are many rumors, signings, departures, and contract extensions to keep up. The 2025 season promises to be the most exciting one in history.

Every team around the league made moves regarding their roster. LA Galaxy re-signed their captain, Maya Yoshida. Charlotte FC lands Eryk Williamson.

However, not everything is good news. Just like there are signings, some deals don’t go through. This is the case with the Portland Timbers and Diego Valdés.

According to W Deportes, the former Santos Laguna player has more than a 50% chance of staying in Club America rather than moving to the MLS.

Two reasons are postponing the arrival of Valdés to the MLS and determining whether the Chilean stays in America.

The reasons why Valdes’s arrival to Portland Timbers could not happen

The first one is the fans. The game against Inter Miami became a crucial factor. Before the game, the Mexican champions were cheered by their 12 thousand fans in the stadium.

The moment of realization by the former Morelia and the cheers of the fans softened the midfielder’s heart. And makes him reconsider the possibility of emigrating to the Major League Soccer.

This happened because the player came to the club in 2022. Since his arrival, the midfielder became a crucial part of the Americas scheme.

The second reason is a conversation with the club owner. In the talk, the Mexican player was seen laughing and sharing hugs with the owner in a charismatic exchange.

Besides the love and cherish of the fans and the owners, there is one more important reason why his transfer could not happen. Club America has not received any offers regarding Diego Valdés from the Portland Timbers.

According to GOAL, the deal could be around 5 million dollars.
