While the New York Red Bulls prepare for the 2025 MLS season, Belgian forward Dante Vanzeir has been the focus of attention.

After two challenging seasons, the team might be looking to move on from the striker in a deal that could reshape their roster.

With transfer rumors swirling, fans are eager to see how the situation unfolds as the New York Red Bulls aim to refine their squad for the upcoming season.

Reports of ongoing discussions between the Red Bulls and Belgian side KAA Gent have added fuel to the speculation.

This could be the move that finally gives Vanzeir a fresh start and the Red Bulls a chance to open up a key spot in their lineup.

According to reports from MLS insider Tom Bogert, KAA Gent sporting director Arnar Vidarsson recently confirmed that his club is negotiating with the New York Red Bulls to acquire Dante Vanzeir.

Speaking to DAZN BENL, Vidarsson noted, ‘Talks are ongoing.’ A finalized deal would not only see Vanzeir return to Belgium but also free up a designated player (DP) spot for the Red Bulls, allowing them greater flexibility in their roster for the 2025 season.

Dante Vanzeir, 26, joined the Red Bulls two seasons ago from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise with high expectations but struggled to deliver consistent results.

Despite showing flashes of brilliance during the team’s run to the Eastern Conference title and MLS Cup Final, his production didn’t justify the hefty DP contract.

According to MLS rules, teams are allowed a maximum of three DP contracts. With recent signings like Felipe Carballo and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, alongside Swedish midfielder Emil Forsberg, the Red Bulls now find themselves with four DPs—one too many.

What’s next for Dante Vanzeir and the Red Bulls?

Vanzeir’s potential move to Gent seems more likely following the departure of Gent’s manager Wouter Vrancken, who reportedly opposed the signing.

The Belgian side, currently sixth in the Pro League, sees Vanzeir as a key addition to their attacking lineup.

This deal represents an opportunity for the Red Bulls to reallocate resources. With a DP spot freed up, the club can pursue new talent to bolster its 2025 campaign.

Stay tuned—this transfer saga could reconcile within the next week, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
