In every sport, some websites released their power rankings regarding teams, players, and leagues. This is the case of Opta Analyst. The website revealed that the MLS is the ninth-best league in football.

The Major League Soccer is ahead of leagues like the Argentinian and the English second division. Most importantly, they showed that the US league was ahead of the Mexican league.

The arrivals of big names to the league boost the image of the sport in the US. Before, nobody watched the MLS, and nowadays, everyone wants to know Inter Miami’s schedule or the rumors regarding star players like Neymar or Salah.

Now, the MLS is in the eyes of everyone, and that’s why they are in the top ten. Despite knowing the MLS position, who are the five best leagues according to Opta Analyst?

5th Place

Let’s begin from the bottom. In this position, we found the Ligue 1. An obvious choice when you remember I told you that the European leagues dominate this ranking. Every year, we see French teams competing at the highest levels of the sport.

Having PSG and AS Monaco representing every year in the Champions League, we also have Rennes competing in the Europa League. And with the addition of the Conference League, we found clubs like Lille representing the country.

As you see, in every competition, we found French teams competing.

4th Place

The most controversial of all, in my opinion. According to Opta, the fourth position is for the Spanish league. However, based on their ranking, this league is tied up with the Ligue 1.

We have seen French teams compete, but in La Liga, there are clubs like FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico de Madrid, and Valencia, among others.

Looking at the last season, Real Madrid won the Champions League. Regarding PSG getting into the semifinals, they were the only club in the Ligue 1 to go past the stage groups.

Nonetheless, because one club reaches the semifinal of a competition, doesn’t mean they are tied with a league that is always competing in every tournament.

3rd Place

Aside from the controversies surrounding the Spanish and French leagues, the other three are in good standing. The third league in this ranking is the Bundesliga.

For the last couple of years, we have seen teams like Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund reaching multiple finals in the Champions League. Adding revelation teams like Leipzig or Bayern Leverkusen.

The German league has the potential to become a top 2 league. Last year, we saw Dortmund in the Champions final and Leverkusen in the Europa League final.

The Germans have shown consistent improvement, being candidates in every tournament.

2nd Place

In this position, we found the Serie A. The league known as Calcio has improved in the past years. Juventus, Milan, Inter, Napoli, and Roma are some institutes that make Italy great.

We’ve seen Italian clubs in finals almost every year. Whether it is Champions or Europa League, we always see Serie A teams reaching the final stages.

Unlike the other three leagues, along with the Premier League, they are the countries with the most competitive league. You won’t find one or two teams that create an overwhelming gap over the rest.

Instead, Serie A is decided in the final matchdays, improving the overall quality of its football—one of the key reasons why it ranks second in this ranking.

1st place

As everyone would expect, the first position in this ranking goes to the Premier League. A league that in the last decade has improved a lot.

In the beginning, the Premier League wasn’t attractive, nobody watched it except for English people. But with the signings, the managers, and the trophies, little by little, the league was gaining an audience. Until it became the most interesting league in football.

Having clubs like Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham is unthinkable that someone wouldn’t want to see a Premier League game.

Not only for the teams, but also, for the managers they have, or some players they recently signed.
