For the last couple of weeks, the MLS has been running hot. There are many rumors, signings, departures, and contract extensions to keep up.
Every team around the league made moves to improve their roster. LA Galaxy isn’t the exception. They secured Lucas Sanabria, a Uruguayan midfielder.
The former Nacional player arrived at the club on a five-year contract. The current MLS Cup champions paid $5 million with $1.8 million in bonuses.
Is this a good signing for the LA Galaxy?
Take a look at the roster and the players in that position. You see names like Essengue, Lepley, and Cerrillo. During the Galaxys game, you notice that Cerrillo is a starter in the Greg Vanneys plan.
With the departures of the other two starters, Mark Delgado and Gastón Brugman, there is a huge spot missing.
Riqui Puig will fill one of the two places once he returns from his injury. But the other spot is the reason why they brought Sanabria.
Sanabria is strong on defense, but able to start the attack from behind. His awareness and timing for tackling make it easier for him to recover the ball.
Lucas Sanabria has proven that his defensive aspects are the best of his game with only two seasons in his back.
His best attributes are among: defensive duels won, few losses in his territory, and recovering the ball.
With less than a month from the start of the season, La Galaxy did the right thing by securing this gem in the midfield.
