For the last couple of weeks, the MLS has been running hot. There are many rumors, signings, departures, and contract extensions to keep up. The 2025 season promises to be the most exciting one in history.
Every team around the league made moves regarding their roster. LA Galaxy re-signed their captain, Maya Yoshida. Chicago Fire wants to sign Neymar. Charlotte FC lands Eryk Williamson.
However, not everything is good news. Just like there are signings, there are also departures. That is the case of Houston Dynamo and Sebastian Ferreira. After three years at the club, both parties agree to terminate the striker’s contract.
According to journalist German Garcia Grova, the Paraguayan striker is set to sign a contract with Rosario Central.
The reason why Sebastian Ferreira decided to terminate his contract
The Paraguayan footballer signed with the Dynamo in 2022 in a transfer record for the club. He played 32 games, scoring 14 goals and giving three assists between MLS and the US Open Cup. In 2022, Ferreira became Houston’s goalscorer.
2023 was a different story for the striker. A new coach came to the team. Despite his amazing numbers last season, Ferreira was a second option for Olsen. With that said, Houston Dynamo let the striker go on loan to Vasco da Gama.
In Brazils Serie A, Sebastian played 13 games, scoring zero goals and zero assists. With the six-month loan finished, Ferreira had to return for the 2024 season.
With more opportunities, Ferreira played 22 games with the Dynamos. During those games, he scored five goals and gave three assists. But his playing time wasn’t enough, and the former Libertad knew it.
Ben Olsen was the reason Ferreira left the team. Houston had a crucial striker for their game, but with zero playing time, nobody can prove themselves.
How did this decision affect the Houston Dynamo?
Despite losing a great and crucial striker, this decision could help Dynamo if they know how to use it. With Ferreira’s departure, Houston Dynamo has an open spot for a franchise player.
With the transfer window still on the road, the Dynamos could take advantage of this spot and try to land a top-tier player.
