With less than 11 days before the start of the 2025 MLS season, CF Montréal is making a crucial wager on their roster. Every team has some youngsters on their roster, but Le CFM took that statement to another level.
The recent signing of Jalen Neal confirms what’s been happening in this transfer market. CF Montréal is looking for fresh and young players to compete this season.
With an average age of 23.2 in their team, Montréal is one of the teams with the younger rosters in the MLS.
Many fans will say that having too many young players is a disadvantage when playing teams with more experienced footballers.
The team’s oldest player is midfielder Victor Wenyam.
Is this a smart move?
This could have negative consequences for Montréal, given that the MLS features players with experience in football.
Let me explain. Young players have more energy and more mobility, although their lack of experience in crucial tournaments will get noticed.
The difference will be evident in the small details, in that cunning that a young player lacks but an experienced one possesses. Making plays last longer and eating up seconds of game time are characteristics players develop with experience.
However, having a young starting eleven could also be an advantage. Nowadays, football has become a more tactical sport. Just look at Manchester City’s games.
The addition of youngsters could bring new ideas for the game and new ways of playing it. Not so robotic, but more fluent.
With plenty of departures, Montreal is looking far ahead in the future.
