The 2025 MLS preseason is plenty of news. Many teams have strengthened their rosters with various signings, and some have lost key players. Major League Soccer is running hot in the market and will not stop.

Now, we drive to San José, California. We found ourselves in the San Jose Earthquakes and looked at Hernan Lopez Muñoz. Yes, that’s right. The Foster Gillet group wants to sign the Goonies number 23.

The corporation is in advanced negotiations for the Argentine player. The offer is around $11 million. The Quakes are ready to accept the offer, but the former Godoy Cruz wants to stay in the MLS.

With this said, the final decision is in the hands of the footballer. However, in Argentina, the transfer window closed on Friday. That’s why the upcoming hours are critical and crucial.

What will this departure mean for the San Jose Earthquakes?

To answer this question, we have two different ways. The first one, the money received by the Quakes in this offer, would benefit the institution. The $11 million could help the club bring a player to replace Lopez Muñoz.

Also, they could reinforce other aspects of the team. Finishing last in the West Conference last season with 21 points. The San Jose Earthquakes have a crucial problem in the defense.

Conceding 78 goals, the $11 million by the Foster Gillet corporation could help them secure a solid defense.

On the other hand, San Jose Earthquakes will lose a crucial player in the midfield. Hernan Lopez Muñoz arrived at the Quakes on April 2024. Since then, he played 30 games, scoring nine goals and three assists.

With the incorporation of Josef Mártinez into the club, keeping a playmaker like Muñoz will benefit the team. The great-nephew of Digo Armando Maradona is known for his agility and 1v1 duels.

Back in Godoy Cruz, he proved he has the old street football. He has that slick dribbling style that captivates fans. He effortlessly gets past defenders. On top of that, he makes his teammates play better and is a natural goal-scorer. If you put him in front of the goal, that play ends in goal.

San Jose Earthquakes will earn a good deal moneywise but will have to sacrifice an essential player.
