Pumas UNAM is making a big move in the off-season to bolster their squad for the upcoming Clausura 2025 season.

After the departure of Chino Huerta to Anderlecht, Pumas wasted no time in securing a talented player who could fill the gap.

The latest signing? Adalberto ‘Coco’ Carrasquilla, a 26-year-old midfielder from the Houston Dynamo.

This move comes after weeks of speculation and talks, and according to reports from TUDN, the deal is finalized.

Carrasquilla is expected to be officially presented by Pumas. His arrival is seen as a crucial step for the team, especially as they look to strengthen their midfield and continue their challenge in Liga MX.

As mentioned, ‘Coco’ Carrasquilla is set to join Pumas on a permanent deal, with the only remaining details being the administrative paperwork between Pumas and the Houston Dynamo.

It’s reported that the Panamanian international will be arriving in Mexico this week, with medical exams and an official announcement expected to follow shortly.

The signing is expected to be completed within the next few days, possibly as soon as Thursday or Friday.

Pat Onstad, the General Manager of Houston Dynamo, confirmed that the club is open to letting Carrasquilla leave, particularly if the move is to Liga MX.

He said, “Coco is a great player and an important part of our group. Many of the rumors are not just rumors, there’s a lot of truth to them. We’re still working on the final details with him.

“We have a good relationship with Coco and his agent to understand what he wants to do and where he wants to go. He wants to keep striving, and he believes this is a good opportunity for him.”

Why Pumas and Carrasquilla are a perfect match

Carrasquilla brings a wealth of experience to Pumas, having played for teams like Tauro in Panama, Cartagena in Spain, and the Houston Dynamo in MLS.

With 26 caps for Panama, he’s no stranger to international competitions and will bring a competitive edge to Pumas’ midfield.

His familiarity with Liga MX, especially through his encounters with Hector Herrera during his MLS tenure, is also a positive factor that could help him adapt quickly.

This signing not only helps Pumas replace Huerta but also adds depth to their squad as they aim for success in the upcoming season.
